A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting a wedding reception for my friends, Heather and Stephen. They turned their home into a lovely vintagesque garden for the celebration of their betrothal. Black and white photographs, sentimental posters, smoky lanterns, sparkling chandeliers, and books from another era were just some of the personalized touches they included as part of their home-turned-reception-hall. Tapa Tapa catered the event (YUM!!!), and their pink truck fit in perfectly with the yellows and oranges in the flower arrangements.
Friends and family gathered to toast the couple, and give them their
blessings.
Although this reception was more difficult than any reception
I have shot, as it was mostly mingling (people talking), and very very dark after dusk... I had a blast challenging myself to capture the
ambiance of the event. As we settled into the moonlit night, I switched
to my 50mm and let the minimal amount of light create more artistic
low-key images, with silhouettes and soft lighting- in keeping with that
vintage vibe.
Congratulations, Heather and Stephen! I wish you all the happiness a couple can handle!
Also, here's a shout out to Abby
Hamessley, and her husband and team, who organized this event. She is an exceptional planner, with attention to detail, and a welcoming personality. You can contact her at abby@abbyhamessley.com.
